Besakih Temple
Besakih Temple is the biggest temple in Bali, situated in the eastern part of Bali, exactly in Karangasem Regency. This temple stands firmly at the foot of Mount Agung in southwestern slopes at an altitude of about 1,000 meters above sea level. However there is a ceremony held each is always packed with Hindus from all over Indonesia.
 
Mount Agung which is about 3142 meters, the highest mountain in Bali, is an important part and parcel of the existence of Besakih Temple. Based on the record, Mount Agung already had erupted several times in the years 1089, 1143, 1189 and 1963.

Mentioned, Besakih.Rute word comes from the word "basuki" which means "salvation". The word evolved into "basukir and Basukih" and then to "Besakih". This name is contained in the two inscriptions that are stored in Gedong Penyimpenan at Natar Agung. At Temple Basukian, this is the first time in the area where the receipt of God's revelation by Hyang Rsi Markendya, the precursor of Hindu Dharma in Bali now, as its center.
Penataran Agung Besakih


Besakih Temple consists of 18 Temple and 1 Temple Center. Besakih Temple is the center of activities for all temples in Bali. Among all pretend that included in the complex Besakih Temple, Penataran Agung  Temple is  the largest , the most buildings , most types equipment and is the center and all existing temples in Besakih.

In the Penataran Agung Temple, there are 3 main statue Tri Murti, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva who is the symbol of God the Creator, Preserver and Fuser.
